The following list contains the documents you need to bring with you to the DL issuance location.
Your emancipation documents
- Certified marriage certificate. Any marriage certificate must be issued by the state office of vital statistics or equivalent agency in your state or county of marriage.
It must be a certified copy and have the stamp or raised seal of the issuing authority. A church or chapel or similarly issued certificate is not acceptable. Photocopies and
faxes are not acceptable.
Your identity document
Make sure it is up to date and correct.
Your name change document(s)
Your Social Security document
Make sure it includes your name and your full Social Security number.
Your residency documents
The address must be a physical address where you currently reside and not a post office box. Make sure it includes your current name.
This list covers Iowa ID requirements and is not intended to cover the requirements you may need to meet to progress through Iowa's graduated driver's license (GDL) program, or to obtain a specific a specific license type or endorsement, such as a minor's school license, a minor's restricted license, or a motorized bicycle or motorcycle endorsement.
